Backed by Help Musicians, UK Theatre, SOLT, British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors, Sadler’s Wells, One Dance UK and UK Music theBalancing Act: Work/Life Survey’ survey seeks contributions from on and offstage staff to reveal the biggest challenges to parenting and working in the sector, as well as identifying the most effective strategies for change.

We need to hear from both parents and non-parents for this research which has the potential to revolutionise working practices for all, across the Industry.

‘We need to hear from people juggling their careers and caring responsibilities in Dance, to get a precise understanding of the underlying challenges and potential solutions.

The data from this survey will provide a much needed springboard to revolutionise the way we work across the performing arts’ Andrew Hurst, CEO, One Dance UK

“I started my professional life out as a dancer, so it’s doubly rewarding to be involved in this project. Life in the arts is hugely rewarding, but often precarious, and a serious juggling act for carers and parents. Our research will help to pinpoint robust data, providing the industry with impetus for change” Professor Almuth McDowall, Birkbeck University

‘We at Help Musicians UK are proud to support PiPA in this vital new research study. The charity is committed to campaigning and advocating for the issues that are important to our community within the music sector. Armed with key insights and evidence, HMUK will be able to highlight the areas that the parents and carers within the music industry need the most support and investment in.’ Claire Gevaux, Creative Director, HMUK
